According to Comit é Fran ç AIS des a é rosols (French aerosol commission or CFA), the total number of aerosol products in France in 2019 was 688 million. This is 8 million (- 1.15%) less than that in 2018 (696 million).
According to CFA, the slight decline in filling volume is still a good indicator of the dynamics of the aerosol industry. The growth in 2018 may cause excess inventory in early 2019, which explains the slow start-up in the first half of 2019. Therefore, production is expected to decline slightly in 2019. There were two categories that declined slightly: personal care and home care. Personal care is a mature and mature category in France, which fluctuates due to weather or fashion. This market is shared by major brand owners, but not all brands are produced in France.
CFA said that there will also be fierce competition from imports in 2019, and imports may have advantages. The significant and unforeseen decline in the production of household products may be due to air fresheners (- 40%). The main brand owners of such products produced outside France have increased their market share in France. Other areas are also growing.
Despite the French biocide regulations, the pesticide / horticultural category remained stable. Growth in other categories was driven by the pharmaceutical / veterinary sub category (+ 9%). Inhalers are not included in CFA statistics, nor are plastic aerosols, and their volume is negligible. The results are based on data provided by CFA members and non members in calendar year 2019. The total amount of personal care aerosols decreased by 2.9% to almost 432 million. Deodorant and antiperspirant: the filling volume in 2019 is – 8.3%. According to CFA, this decline in production is due to the maturity of this sub category, competition from other types of packaging, and the active promotion and marketing of illegal aerosol products in the French market.
